Thursday, July 6: Last day in Graz--final language test, Farewell Show

Thursday was an exciting but also difficult day because it's our last day in Graz.  It was exciting because the students got to demonstrate all that they learned during the program by taking the second language test (the same one that they took at the beginning of the program).  Of course, before we got started, the students had some free time to enjoy their last day in our classrooms in Plais Attems.

As a warm-up before the tests, the students played telephone with Austrian words.  A teacher quietly told the first student an Austrian word, and the students had to pass it on until it got to the last person.  The last person had to write the word down, and we checked to see if they had the right word or if it had changed.  We also played this game at orientation, so it was a nice opportunity to "come full circle" with our trip.

Then, students took the language tests (grammar, listening, and reading).  I even caught one student studying before the tests. :)

Next, we had our lunch break, and I happened to find a few students at the self checkout at their favorite supermarket, Spar.

Then, we practiced for our Farewell Show for our host families.

In the early evening, the host families arrived for our Farewell Show and a small reception, all to thank them for lovingly caring for our students.  We had a student MC, a speech about Graz presented by one of our students, a trumpet solo, a poetry recitation, a fashion show with student-crocheted items, a violin solo, and a student-written play. The teachers concluded with special awards for each student, and then the students presented their student-made magazines to their host families. The students did a wonderful job at the Farewell Show, and the host families really enjoyed it.  We are very proud of our students!

It is going to be very hard to say goodbye to Graz tomorrow morning.
